Africa's Story, Told by Africans

Swahili Nation

Founded in 2019, Swahili Nation is the media movement created by Mika Chavala with a simple yet ambitious mission: to tell Africa's story through African voices, African perspectives, and African languages.

Mika believes that every person has a voice, yet too often the voices of ordinary Africans go unheard. Mainstream narratives frequently overlook the experiences, ideas, and achievements of the people living on the continent. Swahili Nation exists to amplify those voices by documenting and sharing authentic, first-hand stories directly from the ground. It is a platform where Africans speak for themselves, rather than having their stories told by others.

What began as a single YouTube channel has grown into a digital media platform featuring hundreds of videos and reaching millions of viewers across Africa and the global diaspora. Every documentary, interview, speech, and discussion is driven by one conviction:

Africa must tell its own story.

His introduction, in his own words: "My name is Mika Lucas Chavala".

The language

A nation defined by Swahili, not by borders

200M+

Swahili speakers

At the heart of this vision is Swahili — Africa's most widely spoken indigenous language, with more than 200 million speakers across East, Central, and Southern Africa. No other African language connects as many people across national borders.

Swahili Nation is built on the belief that language is more than a means of communication; it is a foundation for identity, culture, unity, and shared purpose.

Rather than viewing Africa as a continent divided by colonial borders, Swahili Nation imagines an Africa united by shared values, common aspirations, and a language that belongs to Africans themselves.

The conversations

Beyond the headlines

Swahili Nation is also home to Mika's signature long-form conversations with entrepreneurs, professors, policymakers, pastors, business leaders, artists, and creators. These conversations go beyond headlines to explore the ideas, innovations, and leadership shaping Africa's future.

Every guest contributes a unique perspective to one central belief:

Africa's future will not be imported. Africans will build it.

The movement

More than a media platform

Swahili Nation is a movement committed to inspiring a new generation of Africans to think independently, rediscover their identity, celebrate their culture, tell their own stories, and take responsibility for building the future of the continent.

Its vision is simple but profound:

One Africa. One Voice. One Future.
